Building Generosity, Dismantling Walls

Mercy. Grace. Love. Life. Joy. Service. Justice. Just some of the values that we strive to live by and encourage at St. Stephen’s. As disciples of Jesus from Nazareth we are challenged every day to look beyond what we have, past our fear, to what we can give and in doing so, one by one we dismantle the walls that are built up around our hearts, minds, communities and the world.

The walls currently being built culturally, politically, and religiously create a barrier that we are charged, as Christians, to raze. We are following a spiritual tradition based on inclusion, equality, love and compassion. At St. Stephen’s this stewardship season, we are dismantling walls that keep us separate from each other, from God, and from our ability to seek justice in the world. We do this by pledging our time, treasure or talent from the understanding that living a life of generosity generates an attitude wherein mercy, grace, love, life, joy, service, and justice can flourish.

“The best things to do with the best things in life is to give them away.” — Dorothy Day.

In giving to St. Stephen’s I am claiming my seat as a member of a community whose mission is to engage in the work by acting justly, loving mercy and walking humbly with our God. We hope that you will join us in this work, the work Jesus calls us to do by helping us dismantle this wall, brick by brick. Each brick has a pledge amount and the total of the bricks equals our projected budget for 2018. Behind each brick is a place to write an area of ministry that you would be interested in giving your time or talent to. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and commitment to St. Stephen’s.
